Over the next 20 years we are looking to continue to transform Gateshead.  We have a huge amount of potential in terms of our regeneration and development plans, but we are also aware of the need to develop a very different approach if we are to truly meet the challenges ahead and respond to the fast-changing needs of our communities and businesses.

In essence, we need to become more responsive, proactive and flexible – and ‘business as usual’ simply won’t cut it anymore.  That is why we have introduced a new senior management structure, but more importantly a new culture based upon our Thrive agenda which focuses on delivery and outcomes – to the direct benefit of our residents.  A vital part of our transformation journey is the recruitment of a Strategic Director for Economy, Innovation and Growth who will play a crucial role in the council’s next chapter.

Gateshead is already the leading location in the North East for innovation, design and technology. We want to build on that success by attracting new businesses, residents and students to the borough.  As our new Strategic Director, you will be outward facing, with an understanding of how to promote Gateshead and put us on the front foot when it comes to developing our key propositions and thereby enabling a positive and inclusive growth agenda.
